Burkina faso: The Third Military Region organized on Friday at the General Baba Sy Military Camp in Ouagadougou, the flag presentation ceremony for 974 recruits of the second wave of the exceptional contingent of the class of 2025, intended to strengthen the operational capacities of the combat forces in the fight against terrorism. After three months of military training, the new recruits officially joined the ranks of the Burkinabe army during a solemn ceremony marking their commitment to the service of the Nation.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the contingent is composed of Volunteers for the Defence of the Homeland (VDP), including several technicians called upon to put their skills to use for the benefit of the fighting forces. The battalion commander of the Regional Military Training Center of the Third Military Region, Commander Issaka Ou©draogo, stated that the recruits underwent intensive and demanding training. "These young recruits endured rigorous, demanding and grueling training, both physically and mentally. They learned weapons handling, tactics, but above all, self-improvement, resilience and esprit de corps," he said.
The battalion commander indicated that these new skills will be used to consolidate resettled villages, secure people and property, and contribute to the reconquest of new areas until the total recovery of territorial integrity. "The message they received was clear: to reinforce the ranks of the army and provide the expected support based on each individual's qualifications so that, together, the forces can defeat the adversary," he added. He also urged the new recruits to serve with loyalty, dedication, and, if necessary, to the ultimate sacrifice for the greater good of the nation.
For the top student in the class, Private Second Class Zenabo Pagbelem, it is a feeling of pride and courage that animates the entire contingent. "Our main goal is to contribute to the fight for the total liberation of the territory in a disciplined manner and to protect the populations throughout the entire territory," she stated.
Of an initial contingent of 977 recruits, including 24 women, 974 were ultimately presented with the colors. The contingent recorded one desertion, one death, and one discharge due to pregnancy.
