Banwa: Nine-year-old girls receive doses of cervical cancer vaccine in Kouka. As part of the routine vaccination against Human Papillomavirus (HPV), responsible for cervical cancer, an important vaccination session for nine-year-old girls took place this Tuesday, May 26, 2026, in the courtyard of the Kouka D public primary school in the presence of health workers from the commune, teachers and a multitude of students who came for the occasion.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this activity is part of the national prevention program implemented throughout the Solenzo health district. From the early hours of the morning, health workers accompanied by teachers set up the necessary equipment on the school grounds. The students concerned were present alongside their classmates who had come to witness this activity.
Before the vaccination, the head nurse, Basile Coulibaly, led an awareness session for students and teachers. He explained that the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine protects young girls against cervical cancer, a disease that affects many women worldwide. He also stressed the importance of prevention and vaccination from the age of nine to ensure better protection for the future.
Following this announcement, the vaccination began calmly and orderly. The girls concerned were called one by one to receive their dose of vaccine under the watchful eyes of teachers and health workers. Throughout the operation, health workers carefully recorded the students’ names on tracking sheets. Teachers, for their part, ensured the order of the lines and adherence to instructions. Thanks to this excellent collaboration between health and education workers, the activity proceeded very smoothly.
At the end of the session, the headmistress of the Judith Traore/ Kouraogo school expressed her gratitude to the health workers for this preventive action that benefited the entire community.
