CEG Soulougre Triumphs in Inaugural Nobere Canton Chief’s Cup


Zoundweogo: The final of the 1st edition of the Nobere canton chief’s cup was played this Thursday, May 22, 2026, on the occasion of the 14th anniversary of the reign of His Majesty the canton chief. The match pitted the CEG team from Soulougre against the team from the Nobere departmental high school. At the end of the match, CEG from Soulougre won 2 goals to 1 and thus took home the trophy.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the competition was organized for the first time this year and initially involved six registered teams. In total, ten matches were played throughout the tournament before reaching this final. The tournament organizing committee was mainly composed of physical education teachers from the various CEGs and high schools in the department, thus guaranteeing quality technical supervision for all matches.



Representing His Majesty the canton chief, his emissary, the Dapoya Naaba, explained the meaning of the initiative during the ceremony. “By organizing this football tournament on the occasion of His Majesty’s fourteenth birthday, we aim to strengthen the bonds between the people of the territorial district,” he stated.



The President of the Special Delegation (PDS), Pierre Kafando, praised the canton chief’s initiative. He emphasized that football is a factor in social cohesion and strengthening ties between communities. He also stressed that sport contributes to the stability and health of the population, as physical activity contributes to human well-being.



The final was held in the presence of administrative, military, and paramilitary authorities, customary authorities, officials from various services, and a crowd of people who came to honor the ceremony.
