Ouagadougou: The Guimbi Ouattara Regional Vocational High School (LPRGO) emerged victorious in the regional final of the Guiriko IB Cup, part of the Burkina Faso Students' League, by defeating Gasmo I High School in a penalty shootout. The final took place on Saturday in Bobo-Dioulasso, following a goalless draw after regular time.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the tense match concluded with a nail-biting penalty shootout, where LPRGO, dressed in blue, secured a 9-8 win. The event was marked by enthusiastic support from fans of both teams, highlighting the keen interest of students and youth in such initiatives.
Dominique Samba, president of the Burkina Faso Students' League, emphasized the competition's role in fostering patriotism, social cohesion, and civic engagement in schools. He expressed satisfaction with the level of participation across all 17 regions of Burkina Faso.
As regional champions, LPRGO received a trophy, a ball, a set of jerseys, and a cash prize. The second-place team, Lyc©e Gasmo I, was also awarded a ball, a set of jerseys, and a cash prize. These rewards are intended to promote sporting excellence, fair play, and student commitment in school competitions.
The conclusion of the regional competitions will pave the way for the selection of the best players from each region. These players will go on to represent their regions in the national phase, which is set to be held in Ouagadougou during the school holidays.
