Dori: The Secretary General of the Liptako and Soum region, Mr. Auguste Kinda, inaugurated the 8th edition of the National Tree Day in Dori with a symbolic planting ceremony at the governorate. This event marks the commencement of the region’s participation in the national campaign titled “The Patriotic Hour to Green Up Burkina Faso,” under the theme “My Concession, My Tree.”
According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony was attended by regional dignitaries, members of the citizen watch group, and humanitarian sector participants. The initiative aims to boost citizen involvement in environmental conservation and the regeneration of vegetation cover, which has suffered due to climate change and human activities. Mr. Kinda emphasized that this campaign reflects Burkina Faso’s dedication to restoring its forest resources, with thousands of plants set to be planted across various public and private domains.
Mr. Auguste Kinda stressed the importance of every citizen planting and nurturing trees to transform their surroundings into spaces of life and hope. Regional Environment Director Mr. Dramane Fogo announced the plan to plant 10,000 diverse species in public and private spaces within the Liptako and Soum region, aligning with broader efforts to restore ecosystems and combat land degradation. Local communities and authorities are encouraged to support the initiative through active participation.
Additionally, Mr. Fogo revealed that the national reforestation campaign will continue under the theme “One Institution, One Grove,” with a national launch slated for June 27 and a regional event scheduled for July 11, 2026. This campaign aims to plant over 15 million trees nationwide, including more than 500,000 in the Liptako and Soum region. A national platform with monitoring sheets has been established to track the trees planted and ensure the success of these efforts.
Through this National Tree Day mobilization, Liptako and Soum’s regional authorities reaffirm their commitment to environmental protection and vegetation restoration. They urge all citizens to embrace this national initiative to contribute to fighting desertification and creating a healthier environment for future generations.
