Boulgou/Ban©: 20,000 Plants Expected to Strengthen the Municipality’s Vegetation Cover

Boulgou/ban©: The municipality of Ban© aims to plant 20,000 seedlings during the 2026 reforestation campaign, as part of the National Tree Day and the presidential initiative to re-green Burkina Faso. For the municipal authorities, this operation represents a major opportunity to restore vegetation cover and strengthen environmental protection.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of the Special Delegation (PDS) of the municipality stated that this campaign aims not only to increase local forest resources but also to raise awareness among the population about the preservation of natural resources. He emphasized that the progressive degradation of the environment, due to deforestation and human activities, necessitates collective action in favor of reforestation.

The plantings will notably concern the sites of the decentralized state services, public establishments as well as several community spaces in the municipality. However, the head of the municipality emphasized that the success of the operation is not measured solely by the number of seedlings planted, but above all by their survival rate.

"Planting a tree is an important act, but protecting and caring for it is even more essential. Officials have been appointed at each site to ensure the monitoring and protection of the seedlings," he stated. In collaboration with the environmental technical services, the municipality has set up a system for monitoring plantings, particularly in public spaces and along the main roads.

The PDS also announced the organization of awareness sessions aimed at strengthening public engagement in tree protection. According to them, the campaign's success will largely depend on citizens taking ownership of the initiative. Addressing the issue of protecting plants, he reminded everyone that penalties are in place for deliberate destruction or negligence leading to their disappearance. These measures can range from compensatory actions to fines, in accordance with current regulations.

"Anyone who allows a tree they have planted to die will have to contribute to its replacement by planting new trees in order to preserve the balance of our environment," he explained. The head of the Special Delegation concluded by calling for widespread public mobilization around this national initiative, urging every citizen to plant and care for at least one tree.

"Our future is inextricably linked to the preservation of our environment. Everyone must feel responsible for its protection," he concluded. This reforestation campaign reflects the will of the municipal authorities and the people of Ban© to actively contribute to the fight against desertification, the effects of climate change and the degradation of natural resources.
