Koubri: The team from the village of Moinc© clinched victory on Saturday in Koubri, winning the final of the second edition of the Union and Peace Cup hosted by the President of the Special Delegation (PDS). They secured a 1-0 win in a match attended by a large gathering of civilians and officials, including administrative, customary, and religious authorities.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the competition, themed "Proud of our country, strong in unity," was organized by comrade Samad© L©onard Gougou, president of the special delegation of Koubri. The decisive match, held at the sector 3 field of Koubri, was fiercely contested from the start, meeting all expectations as Moinc© emerged victorious by a narrow margin.
The team was awarded a trophy, 500,000 FCFA, a set of jerseys, a ball, and medals. The runner-up team received 350,000 FCFA, along with similar sports gear and medals. Third and fourth place were rewarded with 200,000 FCFA and 150,000 FCFA respectively, in addition to sports equipment. Unranked teams also received encouragement prizes, each comprising a cash prize of 25,000 FCFA and a ball.
The event was graced by a significant turnout, emphasizing themes of social cohesion and unity. It was sponsored by Comrade Abdoulaye Bassinga, the governor of the Central region, and supported by the Ministry of Sports, Youth, and Employment, represented by Comrade Hamidou Paul Bamogo.
The ceremony saw attendance from key figures including Comrade Patrick Gampin©, the special envoy to the Presidency of Faso for the Centre; Comrade Arzouma Daouda Lour©, director general of the National Identification Office (ONI); Comrade Boukary Sawadogo, secretary general of the province of Kadiogo; and Comrade Arnaud Nouf© B¨b¨, regional director of Sports of Kadiogo, among other delegation presidents.
Three speeches marked the ceremony. The representative of the Minister of Sports, Youth, and Employment commended the initiative and organizing committee, urging finalist teams to uphold fair play and discipline. Comrade Samad© L©onard Gougou extended gratitude to participants and supporters, emphasizing the life lessons football imparts. The governor of the Central region acknowledged the event's role in fostering social cohesion and patriotism through sport.
The event concluded with general satisfaction, as anticipation builds for the third edition.
