Oubri: New high school graduates from the Oubri region carried out a tree-planting operation this Tuesday at the Bassy provincial high school in Ziniar©, as part of the concept "My baccalaureate activated, my tree planted", an initiative of the ministry in charge of Secondary Education aimed at instilling the eco-citizen spirit in young graduates.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the activity took place under the chairmanship of the regional director of secondary education in Oubri, Dramane Derme, in the presence of water and forestry agents. Each new high school graduate, assisted by forestry technicians, planted a tree on the school grounds. On this occasion, Dramane Derme urged the students to take good care of the saplings.

'Make sure the trees grow properly. This should be a memory for you. When you come back here, you will remember the hardships and joys experienced during the baccalaureate,' he said, inviting his godchildren to contribute sustainably to the re-greening of Burkina Faso.

Having come from the commune of Zitenga to take part in the operation, the new high school graduate Salamata Ou©draogo said she was proud to participate in the initiative. "Planting a tree is giving life. I am proud," she said, promising to return to follow the growth of the kola tree she planted.

The initiative was also welcomed by forestry officials. Forestry Captain Momini Mambone expressed his delight at the young people's commitment. "We feel satisfied when we see young people engaging in this kind of activity," he said, while encouraging them to water the plants regularly and protect them from stray animals.

Through the concept "My activated bin, my planted tree", educational authorities intend to make academic success a civic act in service of environmental protection.
