Ouagadougou: The Criminal Chamber of the Ouaga II High Court has sentenced a health worker to 11 years of imprisonment, with eight years mandatory, along with a fine of one million CFA francs for the aggravated rape of a pregnant woman, as reported by judicial sources.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the accused, identified as ZKA, faced prosecution by the public prosecutor for aggravated rape and conditional threats. The evidence showed that ZKA, a state-certified midwife and head of the maternity department at the Urban Medical Center (CMU) of Sapon, abused his authority to commit the crime against a patient whose vulnerability due to her pregnancy was evident.

The incident dates back to February 27, 2026, when the victim, referred to as NE, visited the CMU of Sapon for a prenatal consultation. It was during this visit that the alleged sexual assault by the accused occurred. Following the victim's complaint, the Sapon Territorial Gendarmerie Brigade initiated an investigation which led to the suspect being presented before the public prosecutor and subsequently tried in the Criminal Chamber of the Ouaga II High Court.

The court ultimately found ZKA guilty of the charges of aggravated rape. His sentence includes eleven years of imprisonment with eight years to be served immediately and three years suspended, in addition to the monetary penalty of 1,000,000 CFA francs.
