Ouagadougou: Media professionals visited the road and sanitation construction sites underway in Kaya on Thursday, as part of the Secondary Cities Mobility and Urban Development Project (PMDUVS).
According to Burkina Information Agency, this immersion organized by Bruno Bonzi of the Directorate of Communication and Press Relations of the Ministry of Homeland Construction aims to allow journalists to "get a feel for the reality of the ongoing achievements", to better understand the interventions of the project and to have reliable information to enlighten public opinion.
On the various construction sites of COGEB International SA, the company BStiment-Travaux-Maintenance (BTM), and the Agence de Conseil et de Ma®trise d'Ouvrage Dlgue en BStiment et Amnagement Urbain (ACOMOD-Burkina), the managers presented the progress of the work while noting the difficulties encountered, in particular the problems of supplying materials and the incivility of some users despite, according to them, the awareness campaign.
'We are facing a lack of respect for safety measures by some people, particularly children,' stated Isma«l Sayaogo, works director for the company BTM. Nevertheless, he said they are on schedule with a 92% completion rate.
Beyond road infrastructure, the PMDUVS includes the construction of social infrastructure in Kaya. At the classroom construction site at the Bonheur Ville A school, the ACOMOD-Burkina project manager, Louona Allan Romaric Koulidiati, presented the educational component of the project. 'In Kaya, we have to build 33 classrooms with buildings that can be expanded to R+1, as well as green spaces. The Kaya town hall is also planned to be rehabilitated,' he specified.
The head of the monitoring mission, Issouf Sanogo, indicated that the road and sanitation works, estimated at approximately 24,000 linear meters of gutters and collectors, show an overall completion rate of nearly 90%. "We are asking the public to help prevent children from crossing safety barriers to play on construction sites. The media also have an important role to play in raising awareness," he stressed.
At the end of the visit, the participants welcomed this initiative which allowed them to better appreciate the progress of the work and the challenges of the infrastructure under construction. Implemented over five years, the PMDUVS aims to improve urban mobility, access to basic services, and economic opportunities in the cities of Bobo-Dioulasso, Kaya, and Ouahigouya, while strengthening the capacities of local authorities.
