Ouagadougou: The Ministry of Agriculture, Water, Animal and Fisheries Resources in Burkina Faso has reported an implementation rate of 54.64% for its 2026 objectives contract as of June 30, 2026. Minister of State, Commander Isma«l Sombi©, shared these findings during a recent announcement in Ouagadougou.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Commander Sombi© outlined that the ministry has been tasked with meeting ten objectives across various sub-sectors, including agriculture, livestock, water, sanitation, and the environment. The evaluation highlighted significant variability in the achievement rates: three objectives surpassed a 70% completion rate, five hovered near 50%, and two remained around 30%.
Commander Sombi© attributed these variances to the timing of the activities, which are influenced by the agricultural cycle and seasonal factors. Despite these challenges, he noted satisfactory results in areas such as cereal needs, fish production, and meat products, with implementation rates nearing 70%.
The minister also addressed support for vulnerable populations, particularly in relation to factors of production, reporting a 50% implementation rate aligned with the onset of the agricultural campaign. However, he acknowledged ongoing difficulties in the poultry sector, where the implementation rate is approximately 30%. Sombi© expressed confidence that directives from the Prime Minister would bolster efforts in the latter half of the year to improve outcomes in this area.
Reflecting on the previous year’s objectives, Commander Sombi© commended the effective collaboration between the National Office for Dams and Hydro-Agricultural Development (ONBAH) and the Faso Mªbo Agency, highlighting their resource-sharing initiatives. Additionally, he discussed strategic measures regarding the suspension or lifting of cereal exports and imports, which are designed to maintain national stock levels, support the population’s purchasing power, and boost local processing industries to enhance value and employment within the country.
