Ouagadougou: Burkinabe rapper Smarty presented a check for 2.5 million FCFA to the Patriotic Support Fund (FSP) on Friday in Ouagadougou, a contribution from the auction of his album “Elevation”, organized on May 29, 2026, to support the national effort for peace and security.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Smarty, whose legal name is Louis Salif Kiekieta, emphasized that the 2.5 million FCFA represents much more than just a sum of money. “It contains the heart of all Burkinab¨, the love of all those who support us,” he declared, encouraging his compatriots to further acts of solidarity for the Nation.
He also acknowledged the commitment of Burkinabe artists who, through their works, messages, and various initiatives, contribute daily to the promotion of peace and support of national efforts.
The artist dedicated his gesture to the Defense and Security Forces, the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland, and all victims of terrorism, offering prayers for the return of peace, stability, and social cohesion to Burkina Faso.
He explained that this donation constitutes a duty of gratitude towards the Burkinabe people who have supported him for more than twenty years of his career. ‘What is a twenty-year career without the support of one’s people? It is thanks to the Burkinabe that we exist. It is therefore normal that at each important stage of our journey, we take an action in their honor,’ he stated.
Upon receiving the donation, the Chairman of the Management Committee of the Patriotic Support Fund, Vieux Abdoul Rachid Soulama, hailed a “highly patriotic act” which responds to the call made by the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, inviting Burkinabe to contribute voluntarily to the financing of the defense and security effort.
The head of the FSP noted that this is the first time an artist has dedicated part of the proceeds from a cultural event to the Patriotic Support Fund, expressing the hope that this initiative will set a precedent within the world of culture. “It is not the amount that counts, but the willingness to answer the call of the Nation. If every Burkinabe contributes according to their abilities, we will accomplish great things,” he said.
Mr. Soulama assured that the resources mobilized will be used rigorously and transparently for the benefit of actions to recapture the territory and strengthen the capacities of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) as well as the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP).
