Ouagadougou: The province of Namentenga has adopted a contingency plan 2026-2029 with a total cost of 116,494,700 FCFA in order to strengthen its preparedness and capacity to respond to disasters and humanitarian crises, announced the High Commissioner of the province and president of the Provincial Council for Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation (COPROSUR), Adama Conseiga, on Thursday in Boulsa.
According to Burkina Information Agency, presiding over the workshop to present the document, Mr. Conseiga welcomed the support of the Teeltaaba project, which facilitated its development, before inviting technical and financial partners to adopt the tool and contribute to its funding.
The provincial contingency plan outlines, in particular, the identification and prioritization of risks, the state of crisis management capacities, response and communication strategies, operational coordination mechanisms, and resource mobilization methods.
According to the data presented, 32,740,000 FCFA is earmarked for preparedness activities, while 83,754,700 FCFA will be allocated to emergency response and victim support, from the first 24 hours to the three months following a disaster. The total cost of the three-year plan thus amounts to 116,494,700 FCFA.
The exchanges between participants allowed for a deeper understanding of the document and the collection of contributions with a view to its appropriation by all actors involved in risk and disaster management.
The president of COPROSUR expressed his gratitude to the Teeltaaba project, funded through the NGO Welthungerhilfe (For a World Without Hunger), for its financial support, as well as to the Permanent Secretariat of the National Council for Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation (SP/CONASUR) for its technical support in the development of the plan.
He recalled that the Teeltaaba project also supported the municipalities of Boulsa and Dargo in the design of their municipal contingency plans.
Expressing his satisfaction with the work, High Commissioner Adama Conseiga urged the various stakeholders to take ownership of the document and work towards mobilizing the resources necessary for its implementation. He concluded by offering prayers that the province would be spared from recurring disasters, including floods, strong winds, drought, and crop pests.
