Ouagadougou: The fourth edition of the "One artist, one tree" initiative, spearheaded by musician GM DU Faso, also known as Eric Gansonr, took place on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the Goabga school in the commune of Niou, under the auspices of traditional healer Kientega Sidiki. The event witnessed participation from administrative, traditional, and religious authorities from the province of Kourwogo, alongside a significant number of local residents.
According to Burkina Information Agency, tree planting served as the central activity of this year's edition, with artists and community members planting several species of seedlings. Eric Gansonr, the initiative's promoter, explained that the effort is intended to support environmental preservation and protection, emphasizing the multifaceted benefits of trees. "This activity combines showbiz and nature conservation. It shows that, behind our microphones, we artists also have a responsible attitude towards our environment. Since the first edition, we have planted and maintained more than a hundred plants," he stated, describing the initiative as a cultural endeavor with substantial environmental impact.
Oudraogo Dramane, conveying a message from Goabga's village chief Naba Tegr, expressed satisfaction with the reforestation event in his community, extending gratitude to the organizers and authorities for their involvement. "This is a civic and citizen-driven act that will allow us to re-green our suffering lands. We pledge to maintain and protect the plants that have been planted," he emphasized.
Sidiki Kientega, the event's patron, lauded the initiative, highlighting the essential benefits of trees and pledging ongoing support for Eric Gansonr's environmental work. "Knowing all the benefits of trees, we can only encourage and support Eric Gansonr in his work. I will always be available to contribute to the preservation and protection of the environment," he remarked.
Harouna Kombassr, Secretary General of the Kourwogo province, speaking on behalf of the High Commissioner, acknowledged the initiative as a testament to artists' commitment to environmental protection. "The High Commissioner has asked me to convey his congratulations to you for the organization of this activity which will contribute to the improvement of our environment," he stated, urging the educational community to ensure the seedlings' proper maintenance for their continued growth.
The event also featured performances by artists, who entertained the audience with melodies, fostering a congenial atmosphere around this collective environmental effort.
