Ouagadougou: The Bassitenga Provincial Tax Directorate launched the second edition of Tax Compliance Week on Monday, July 27, 2026, in Ziniar. Under the theme "Together, let's cultivate tax compliance for a prosperous Bassitenga and a sovereign Burkina Faso," this initiative aims to raise taxpayers' awareness of the importance of taxation as a lever for development and national sovereignty.
According to Burkina Information Agency, through this week of activities, the tax administration intends to bring services closer to taxpayers in order to better explain the role of tax and encourage voluntary payment. The provincial director of taxes for Bassitenga, Ang¨le Sawadogo, indicated that her team will focus on disseminating accurate information to dispel the misunderstandings that still surround tax obligations. She welcomed the strong support from administrative and traditional authorities, as well as various stakeholders, for this initiative, which will contribute to strengthening a culture of tax compliance in the province.
Her emphasis is that paying taxes is a civic act that allows the State to meet its sovereign expenses while making structuring investments for the benefit of present and future generations. The head of the ceremony, Comrade Sadou Guigma, the high commissioner of the Bassitenga province, reiterated that the sovereignty advocated by the highest authorities of the country rests on the ability of Burkinabe to finance their own development. "When we effectively mobilize our internal resources, we strengthen our independence and our ability to meet the needs of our people," he said, while praising the initiative of the Provincial Tax Directorate.
Florent Dabon, the president of the special delegation (PDS) of the municipality of Ziniar, agreed, emphasizing that sustainable development can only be ensured through increased mobilization of own resources. Sponsor of this second edition, Naaba Sanem, chief of Ziniar, pledged to support the tax administration in raising awareness among the population. "Our mission alongside the tax administration is to demystify taxes and duties so that everyone understands their usefulness for the development of our country," he stated, before announcing his intention to rely on the media to amplify awareness campaigns.
Tax Citizenship Week will feature several activities, including awareness-raising stages, radio broadcasts, a popular cross-country race, and a solidarity visit to incarcerated individuals. Through these actions, the Provincial Directorate of Taxes intends to promote tax compliance as a true act of patriotism in service of a prosperous Bassitenga and a sovereign Burkina Faso.
