Ouagadougou: Former students of the Thyou Departmental High School organized a reunion on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at their alma mater, engaging in activities aimed at reinforcing intergenerational connections while contributing to the school's environmental improvement efforts.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the event, themed "48 Hours of Alumni," featured a reforestation operation, a friendly football match between past and present students, and a founding general assembly aimed at establishing an alumni association. The reforestation initiative, conducted on the school premises, seeks to enhance environmental protection and improve the educational setting for current students, rallying the school community around preserving its greenery.

Boukar Kabr, the headmaster of Thyou Departmental High School, emphasized the importance of sustaining reforestation efforts. He remarked, "Reforestation should not be a one-off activity. Each tree planted must be cared for and protected so that it can grow and contribute sustainably to the beautification of our school and the preservation of our environment." Kabr called on students, teachers, and alumni to actively participate in nurturing the seedlings through watering, shielding young trees, and performing regular maintenance. He highlighted that planting a tree is a civic duty, but its growth and survival hinge on a shared commitment.

In addition to the environmental focus, the reunion bolstered connections across generations of students. The initial general assembly is anticipated to lead to the formation of an alumni association, which aims to foster collaboration between former students and the school.
