Loroum: The team from sector 2 of Titao emerged victorious on Friday, August 14, 2026, in the first edition of the Cheick Abdoul Aziz Oudraogo Unity Cup, following a tense penalty shootout against the team from sector 5.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the tournament commenced on July 21, 2026, featuring eight teams from various social backgrounds in Titao. It was organized to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the parish of Titao, established on April 1, 1966, by the White Fathers. The event was a part of the 72 hours of Bayiir Daare celebrations, coinciding with the parish's jubilee anniversary.
The parish priest of Titao, Father Paul Koussoub, who promoted the competition, stated that the trophy was dedicated to the late Cheick Abdoul Aziz Oudraogo, a former president of the Muslim community in Titao, honoring his efforts in fostering unity among different religious groups. "He was a unifier, an actor of peace and peaceful coexistence between communities," Father Koussoub remarked.
David Ayoro, the Secretary General of the province of Loroum, representing the High Commissioner and patron of the event, applauded the initiative for enhancing coexistence among religious communities. He emphasized that paying tribute to Cheick Abdoul Aziz Oudraogo serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of religious tolerance, which is essential for cultivating peace, unity, and solidarity.
The tournament proceeded without incident over the three weeks of competition. Saidou Ouango, the provincial director of sports, youth, and vocational and technical training, expressed that the enthusiastic participation demonstrated the youth's dedication to patriotism and communal harmony. He commended the Catholic Church's role in uniting young people and fostering fraternity among different communities.
Cheick Abdoul Rasman, brother of the late Cheick Abdoul Aziz Oudraogo, highlighted the importance of collaboration among Titao's religious denominations as a model to be preserved. He articulated gratitude on behalf of his family and the Muslim community, acknowledging the initiative as a significant contribution to peace and social cohesion.
Jacques Boukary Niampa, former mayor of Titao and co-sponsor of the ceremony, lauded the solidarity among the city's religious leaders, underscoring unity, fraternity, and social cohesion as pillars for peace and development.
