Ouagadougou: The Health and Social Promotion Center (CSPS) of Bissiga, located in the Boulgou province, has initiated the second phase of the national seasonal malaria chemoprevention campaign (CPS Plus) starting from August 20, 2026. This phase is set to run until August 23, 2026, and focuses on administering preventive malaria treatment to children aged between 3 to 59 months.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the campaign is being carried out by health personnel supported by Community Health Workers (CHWs) and employs a door-to-door strategy to reach the maximum number of beneficiaries. The aim is to ensure that eligible children receive the necessary preventive treatment in their own homes.

Abdoulaye Serm, the Head Nurse of the health post, highlighted that the campaign involves four key interventions. These include screening children aged 6 to 59 months for acute malnutrition, administering the CPS product to children aged 3 to 59 months, identifying children aged 5 to 23 months whose malaria vaccination schedules are incomplete, and destroying mosquito breeding sites.

Mr. Serm emphasized the importance of this campaign in enhancing malaria prevention among children under the age of five, who are particularly susceptible to the disease during the rainy season. He encouraged mothers and caregivers to remain in their homes to facilitate the teams' efforts to reach every eligible child.

Additionally, the Head Nurse called on community health workers to continue their efforts in raising awareness about other preventive measures. These include the use of long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs), indoor residual spraying (IRS), intermittent preventive treatment during pregnancy (IPTg), and maintaining clean living environments.

"If we protect our children from malaria, we are protecting our future," Mr. Serm stated. From 7 a.m., numerous teams, composed of ASBCs and health workers, have been deployed to ensure comprehensive coverage of the area.
