Ouagadougou: In a groundbreaking development for the arid region of Liptako, 15 tons of fish will be harvested for the first time at the Yacouta dam, as reported by AIB. This achievement is made possible through the implementation of floating cages, marking a significant milestone for local fish production.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Ministry in charge of Fisheries Resources announced on its Facebook page that the harvest began this Monday, six months after the initiation of the stocking of floating cages at the Yacouta dam. A total of 18 floating cages are set to be harvested, with an expected production of 15 tonnes of fish.

The ministry highlighted that this local production is expected to enhance the availability of fish in the region, while simultaneously creating economic opportunities for the residents of Dori and nearby areas. The success of the Yacouta project showcases the potential for local fish production, despite the challenges posed by the region's environment.

The fish production initiative at Yacouta aligns with the food sovereignty goals promoted by the President of Faso, Ibrahim Traor. The focus is on the development of national resources and reinforcing local production, as emphasized by the ministry.
