Ouagadougou: At least 2400 seedlings planted to re-green the communal forest: The Departmental Water and Forestry Service, in collaboration with the Bittou Special Delegation, organized a reforestation day on Saturday, August 22, 2026, in the Bittou municipal forest, located in Mogomnore, about ten kilometers from the town. A total of 2,400 seedlings of 11 different species were planted, AIB observed.

According to Burkina Information Agency, from the early hours of the morning, municipal authorities, environmental service agents, civil society organizations, defense and security forces, as well as gold miners, mobilized to participate in this operation aimed at contributing to the greening of the municipality.

With a total area of 74 hectares, the Bittou communal forest also houses a grove of medicinal plants of one hectare, exclusively devoted to species with medicinal uses, explained the head of the Bittou departmental Water and Forestry service, Lieutenant Constantin Zongnaba.

The head of the Water and Forestry Department expressed his gratitude to the municipal authorities and all participants for their commitment. He also acknowledged the support of the IUCN, through the LoGMe 2 project, which made this activity possible with the community.

Present at the ceremony, the president of the Bittou special delegation expressed his satisfaction with the success of the operation. He urged the local population to protect and care for the planted seedlings to ensure their survival.

According to him, the municipality intends to continue its efforts to restore the communal forest. “You have seen that part of the communal forest is already fenced off. We are counting heavily on the IUCN project. The municipality has planned to fence off one hectare this year,” he indicated.
