Ouagadougou: The Minister of Health, Dr. Robert Lucien Jean-Claude Kargougou, announced a major transformation of the Boulsa Medical Center with a surgical unit (CMA) as part of the 2026-2030 Health Recovery Plan, despite the limited resources available to the staff.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the announcement was made during a four-day tour by the minister in the Kouls region, aimed at monitoring the implementation of the National Strategy for the Transformation of the Health System (SNTS). Dr. Kargougou visited various departments of the Boulsa CMA, including pediatrics, the Nutritional Recovery and Education Center, maternity, the laboratory, the operating room, the emergency room, and the district health administration.
During his visit, the minister was briefed on the human and material resources situation, challenges faced, expectations, and performance recorded by each department. He observed the poor conditions of some infrastructures, a lack of modern equipment, and a shortage of staff. Despite these challenges, he acknowledged the dedication and commitment of the staff who continue to deliver essential services.
Dr. Kargougou highlighted the efforts of the medical team, noting that an average of 40 cesarean sections are performed monthly along with other surgical procedures. He also commended the laboratory’s ability to conduct numerous additional tests, particularly in biochemistry, which aids in patient diagnosis and care.
The minister was informed that approximately 20 of the 25 health facilities in the district are operational, ensuring essential care and nutrition coverage. To enhance the district’s capacity, plans are underway to equip the CMA with ambulances, supervision vehicles, and additional health personnel. Additionally, the processing of remaining career files for health workers is expected to be completed by the end of October 2026.
Dr. Kargougou expressed satisfaction with the performance of the district’s chief medical officer, Emile Compaor, and his team, praising their resilience and dedication. He announced the construction of a modern, expandable two-story maternity ward at the Boulsa Medical Center to improve care quality and reception conditions for the population.
The minister also acknowledged the Defense and Security Forces for their role in reclaiming the territory, which facilitated the reopening of several health facilities. He urged the Volunteers for the Defence of the Homeland in the health sector to maintain professionalism and commitment to further enhance health and nutrition indicators.
