Army Agricultural Volunteers Launch Offensive Against Malaria Vectors

Ziro/bakata: The agricultural Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) of Bakata, Ziro province, organized a cleanup day on Monday, September 7, 2026. The aim was to eliminate the weeds growing in several public spaces in the commune, on the occasion of the rainy season.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the organizers, equipped with their work tools, proceeded to clean and weed the royal court of Bakata, the Health and Social Promotion Center (CSPS), and the headquarters of the communal VDP.

The head of the collective, Sita Kabr, explained that this citizen initiative aims to improve the local living environment. "We are mobilizing our efforts to clean up our spaces and protect the health of the inhabitants. This action eliminates the undergrowth and breeding grounds that promote the proliferation of mosquitoes responsible for malaria," he stated.

For these producers, this operation reflects their desire to participate, beyond their agricultural activities, in development and social cohesion actions in the community.

They also invited local residents to become more involved in maintaining their environment, particularly through the regular cleaning of concessions and public spaces.

This eco-citizen day should therefore contribute to making the main sites concerned cleaner and to reducing the risks associated with diseases, particularly at this time when the fight against malaria remains a public health concern.
