Ouagadougou: The NGO Doctors of the World handed over medical-technical equipment and awareness-raising tools to the Baskuy health district and partner civil society organizations as part of the closing ceremony of the RESPECT project. The donation, which took place on Monday, holds an estimated value of 27 million CFA francs.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the equipment handover event gathered health officials, district management team members, civil society organizations, and representatives of Doctors of the World. This initiative concludes a project focused on enhancing access to healthcare, improving service quality, and promoting community involvement in health initiatives.
The donated equipment for the Baskuy health district, valued at 19 million CFA francs, includes sterilization tools, contraceptive method insertion boxes, a bleach production device, and other essential medical-technical equipment. Meanwhile, civil society organizations received equipment worth 8 million CFA francs, comprising motorcycle tricycles, sound systems, tents, chairs, and video projectors designed to support travel and awareness campaigns within the community.
Dr. Yacouba Ouattara, representing the general coordinator of Doctors of the World, highlighted that the RESPECT project aimed to enhance healthcare access, improve care quality, and empower communities to take charge of their health. He emphasized that the project's sustainability is measured by the foundational strength it leaves behind, ensuring that the provided equipment will help solidify the project's outcomes, especially in sexual and reproductive health.
Dr. Ursule Bambara, the district medical officer of Baskuy, expressed confidence that the donation would significantly bolster the district's healthcare capacity and patient care. She assured that the equipment would be utilized responsibly and for the community's benefit. Dr. Bambara thanked Doctors of the World for not only providing equipment but also for prioritizing the health of the community.
Larba Oudraogo, representing civil society organizations, expressed gratitude for the support from Doctors of the World and committed to ensuring the equipment benefits the population. Dr. Daniel Yerbanga, the regional health director for Kadiogo, extended appreciation for the partnership's quality and alignment with the health system's priorities. He highlighted the project's focus on healthcare access, care improvement, and skill enhancement for healthcare professionals.
Dr. Yerbanga underscored the significance of medical-technical equipment in caring for pregnant women and newborns and expressed hope for continued collaboration beyond the RESPECT project through new initiatives benefiting the population. The ceremony served as a call to action for all stakeholders, emphasizing that health improvement is a collective responsibility shared among the State, partners, and communities.
