Ziniar: The mining group West African Resources (WAF) presented its sustainable development report for the year 2025 on Friday in Ziniar, highlighting its economic, social, environmental, and community contributions in Burkina Faso. Organised through its subsidiaries SOMISA SA (Soci©t© mini¨re de Sanbrado), TOEGA SA, and KIAKA SA, the meeting brought together the constituted bodies, the technical services of the State, and the representatives of the communities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the data presented revealed that WAF paid approximately 55.8 billion CFA francs in salaries and benefits to employees in 2025. The group also contributed 9.9 billion CFA francs to the Local Mining Development Fund and allocated 4.8 billion CFA francs to community initiatives.

SOMISA director Oumar Barro emphasized that extractive industries must go beyond wealth production and contribute to economic development, social inclusion, environmental protection, and the well-being of populations. The actions presented focused on worker safety, local employment, education, health, access to water, and the development of income-generating activities.

The governor of the Oubri region, Sy Assetou Barry/Traor, welcomed this accountability initiative and reminded the company, the administration, and the communities of their responsibilities in managing mining investments. The discussions finally made it possible to present the main results recorded in 2025 and the initiatives carried out for the benefit of the residents of the areas where the various WAF subsidiaries are located.
