Ouagadougou: The Nionko public primary school returned to its original location on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, after being relocated to Pissila for two years due to insecurity. The return was marked by the official start of the school year, which took place in an atmosphere of relief.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the return of the population to Nionko, facilitated by the efforts of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), paved the way for the return of the school.

'We missed school for two years. Some children had to drop out of school,' explained the school council president, Sournoma Sawadogo. For him, it is a joy for everyone to see the village school come back to life.

The administrative start of the school year brought together all the teachers of the school and was marked by the reading and discussion of the official instructions, the distribution of classes and tasks, as well as the recruitment of new students.

According to the school's director, Sibiri Roland Oudraogo, this reopening marks an important step for the educational community. 'This return to school is very important for us. We have fulfilled our duty by joining the returning populations with the school service. We hope for the support of the communities to ensure quality education,' he said.

The Nionko public primary school, in the Basic Education District (CEB) of Pissila 1, was relocated in 2024. Because of the insecurity, students, teachers and people had been forced to leave the village and settle in Pissila, the capital of the commune.

For the start of the 2026-2027 school year, the Nionko public primary school has returned to its original village. This return reflects the improved security situation in several areas of Burkina Faso.
