Ouagadougou: The president of the organizing committee (PCO) of the Rakiir Mang'Kaya Festival, the Tansoab-n-kiema of Sandbondtenga, assured on Wednesday that preparations for the second edition, scheduled from September 25 to 27, 2026, in Kaya, are progressing satisfactorily, during a press conference.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the festival, which was originally scheduled for March 27-29, 2026, will now take place at Kaya's December 11th Square. The theme for this year's event is "Joking kinship, remedy to ethnic conflicts and social divisions between communities," aiming to promote rakiir, or joking kinship, as a means to foster rapprochement, dialogue, fraternity, and peace among communities.

The PCO, the Tansoab-n-kiema of Sandbondtenga, explained that the change of date has allowed for better preparation of the event. "The various committees are currently working on the final adjustments," he stated. The postponement has facilitated greater involvement from stakeholders and allowed communities more time to embrace the festival. The PCO also acknowledged the personal involvement of Naaba Sigri, Dima of Boussouma.

The festival will feature a variety of activities, including cultural and traditional evenings, a public conference, a mobilization caravan, a rakiir parade to the market, and popular entertainment. Additionally, a rakiir village, a gala match, and visits to tourist sites are planned to enrich the event.
