Dibougou:The private sector team emerged victorious in the football final of the inaugural "For the RPP, I Commit" tournament, defeating the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) 2-0. The event took place at the Jean-Baptiste Ouattara Stadium, where a large crowd gathered to witness the competition, which also featured traditional wrestling matches.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the football final was contested in two 20-minute halves, with both teams displaying strong performances. Ultimately, the private sector secured their win through effective teamwork and offensive play.
The winning team was awarded a trophy, along with a set of jerseys, a ball, 250,000 FCFA, and gold medals. The FDS, as runners-up, received jerseys, a ball, 200,000 FCFA, and silver medals. The third and fourth places went to Citizen Watch and the Servants of the People, respectively, who both received monetary rewards, jerseys, and balls.
Traditional wrestling also featured prominently, with competitions across U15, U17, and senior categories. Fataou Coulibaly stood out as the senior grand champion, impressing with his technical skills. Winners in each category were awarded 35,000 FCFA, 30,000 FCFA for second place, and 25,000 FCFA for third place.
The tournament was promoted by Serge Gnaniodem Poda, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Handicrafts, who emphasized the event's role in promoting unity and commitment to Burkina Faso's Popular Progressive Revolution (RPP). Poda highlighted the importance of building a sovereign nation in terms of economy and defense.
Minister of Basic Education, Jacques Sosth¨ne Dingara, who sponsored the event, spoke about national achievements and projects, including the TEXFORCES-BF industrial complex and the Gaoua University Hospital. He encouraged youth participation in local development initiatives like Faso Mªbo.
The event was well-attended by young people and local leaders. It concluded with a light-hearted segment, reflecting the community's enthusiasm. The promoter expressed hopes for the tournament to become a recurring event, potentially expanding to a national level.
