Pabr:A 24-year-old man was convicted for attempting to steal an engine block in the commune of Pabr, receiving an 18-month suspended prison sentence and a fine of 500,000 CFA francs.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the incident occurred in July 2026 when the man, identified as AB, attempted to dismantle the engine block. His actions were interrupted by women passing by who reported him, leading to his immediate arrest.

In court, AB confessed to the crime, explaining that his actions were driven by desperation after failing to secure employment. He stated that he had been seeking work as a laborer without success on the day of the attempted theft.

AB further explained that his grandmother's poor health required financial support, which he lacked. He told the judge, "I wanted to find money to treat my grandmother who was sick in the village."

After considering AB's circumstances and his admission, the court handed down the suspended sentence and imposed the fine, giving him six months to pay.
