Zabr:More than 100 motorcyclists were arrested by the territorial gendarmerie brigade in Zabr for failing to wear helmets, aligning with the enforcement measure that began on October 1, 2026.
According to Burkina Information Agency, by 8 a.m. on the day of the operation, numerous motorcycles were halted in front of the Zabr territorial gendarmerie brigade. Motorcyclists were detained not only for not wearing helmets but also for lacking proper documentation. The penalty for failing to wear a helmet includes a fine of 3,000 CFA francs and the immobilization of the vehicle until a compliant helmet is presented.
Brigade Commander Djibril Doulkom stated that the operation's objective is to uphold existing regulations. He highlighted that Zabr had three fatal accidents in August 2026, emphasizing the importance of this enforcement phase following awareness campaigns by local authorities. Commander Doulkom noted that this marks the end of the leniency period announced by the Security Minister on September 15, 2026.
Zanr Mohammed, a motorcyclist affected by the operation, acknowledged the necessity of the measure, citing the helmet€š¬€ž¢s protective benefit. Similarly, student Judith Ouar expressed support for the gendarmerie's actions, emphasizing the life-saving potential of wearing helmets.
Commander Doulkom further announced upcoming road safety measures, such as the mandatory use of seat belts, urging road users to practice responsible behavior.
