Tenkodogo:Former students and community members have come together to support the construction of a fence around Loanga A public primary school, aiming to enhance the safety of students and staff. Loanga is approximately fifteen kilometers from Tenkodogo.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative is spearheaded by the Association for the Development of Loanga, led by honorary president Mr. Paul Kr and RISA Nakamb. The project seeks to rally former students and the community to contribute to their alma mater's safety improvement.
Mr. Kr encouraged contributions by stating, "Each former student, a bag of cement and a 12-gauge iron bar, and that's all it takes." He appealed to former students, merchants, sponsors, and well-wishers to support the undertaking.
The absence of fencing has left the school grounds vulnerable to stray animals and passing cyclists and motorcyclists, especially given its proximity to the Loanga market. Mr. Kr emphasized the project's importance for the safety of children and teachers and as a unifying effort for former students.
The project is expected to cost around 20 million FCFA and will be funded primarily through private donations. Construction is projected to take 12 months from the start of work.
Mr. Kr noted the broader vision for community involvement, stating that development should not be driven by just a few people but should involve as many as possible. The association plans to extend this collaborative spirit to other initiatives, such as agriculture, tomato processing, and school infrastructure projects.
Woba Dialinli, the acting director of the school, praised the initiative and expressed hope for continued support. The school, which has about 350 students and 16 teachers, faces challenges such as overcrowded classrooms, poor infrastructure, and an incomplete water tower.
Mr. Dialinli highlighted the need for ongoing assistance, particularly in improving teaching conditions and school facilities, noting the initial efforts as a positive beginning.
