Hounde Validates Food System Diagnosis and Plans Territorial Actions

Hounde:The municipality of Hounde, supported by the OKDB-Tuy project and financed by Gret and its partners, held a workshop from September 28 to 30, 2026, to present the diagnosis of the city's food system and plan actions under the Territorial Food Plan (PAT-Hounde).

According to Burkina Information Agency, the study highlighted Hounde's reliance on the market for its food system despite its significant agricultural potential. Conducted by Damien Bella, a student intern from Nazi Boni University in Bobo-Dioulasso, the workshop aimed to validate the study's findings with local stakeholders and facilitate the creation of an operational and budgetary plan for PAT-Hounde.

Around 80 participants attended, representing various sectors including decentralized technical services, the Hounde mine, restaurateurs, transporters, traders, producers, consumers, hoteliers, gold miners, women's organizations, and civil society organizations. They reviewed the diagnostic findings, contributed to discussions, and reached a consensus on the study's results. Actions to address challenges were identified, and initial cost estimates for these actions were made with expert support.

The workshop validated the diagnostic results and proposed actions for PAT-Hounde. Participants appreciated the opportunity to understand the Hounde food system's issues and contribute to solutions. Abdoul-Rahim Guira, a water and sanitation technician, noted the workshop's emphasis on hygiene and sanitation challenges. Anne Gnoumou/Lamien, head of an agri-food processing company, highlighted improvements in transport conditions and contamination prevention as key discussion outcomes.

Souleymane Dianda, president of the special municipal delegation, emphasized the meeting's role in presenting, reviewing, and validating the study's results, leading to an operational and budgetary plan for PAT-Hounde. He expressed gratitude to GRET and partners for their support, stating the results will guide decision-making to enhance the food system.

Kyrill Kabore, OKDB-Tuy project manager, explained the study's focus on understanding dietary habits, eating practices, and nutritional challenges in Hounde. He stressed promoting local consumption to support Tuy's produce and align with authorities' priorities for national products.

Ibrahima Zerbo, GRET project manager, praised participants' commitment and affirmed GRET's support for implementing the Territorial Food Plan for Hounde's benefit. The next step involves submitting the plan to the municipal special delegation for review and adoption.
