Hanoi:The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel has been awarded to American economists Robert E. Hall and Michael Woodford. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced the winners on Monday, October 12, 2026.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the prize was awarded to Hall and Woodford for their contributions to the microeconomic foundations of macroeconomic stabilization. The prize committee noted that their models allow for timely fiscal and monetary measures to mitigate fluctuations in economic activity.
John Hassler, chairman of the prize committee in economic sciences, emphasized the importance of their work, stating that it has provided a solid theoretical foundation for models used by central banks and governments globally. These models are crucial for handling economic shocks, such as energy crises or sudden changes in household consumption.
