Washington:US President Donald Trump has urged Ukraine to appoint a new leader capable of negotiating a peace agreement with Russia. This call came shortly after a diesel agreement was reached between the United States and Russia.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Trump criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for allegedly refusing to end the ongoing conflict, which he claims is obstructing diplomatic efforts and prolonging hostilities. Trump suggested that Ukraine needs a new president to facilitate a peace deal.
The diesel agreement, announced on October 9, 2026, lifts sanctions to permit Russia to deliver 300,000 tons of diesel to the United States. Trump also mentioned that he had asked Kyiv to cease its attacks on Russian refineries, a request that was not fulfilled.
Axios reports that the situation marks the most significant crisis between Trump and Zelensky since their dispute in the Oval Office in February 2025.
