Ziga:Sandbondtenga/Ziga The chief physician of the Ziga Medical Center, Dr. Pouy-Nigba Christian René Kabré, is urging parents to participate in the fourth phase of the seasonal malaria chemoprevention campaign (CPS+), which is set to take place from October 15 to 18, 2026. This initiative aims to enhance protection for children against malaria.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Dr. Kabré encouraged parents to welcome community distributors, allow their children to receive medication, and adhere to the prescribed protocol, emphasizing that it benefits everyone.
In the Ziga Medical Centre's coverage area, 16 teams, each consisting of two community distributors, have been mobilized to administer medications directly to homes. The deployment of these teams is based on population and neighborhood distribution, with town criers used to increase public awareness and announce the distributors' visits.
The CPS+ targets children aged 3 to 59 months, with age-specific dosages. In Ziga, 538 infants aged 3 to 11 months, including 275 boys and 263 girls, are involved. The campaign also includes malnutrition screening for children aged 6 to 59 months and identifies those needing catch-up vaccinations.
Dr. Kabré highlighted a reduction in malaria cases in 2026 compared to the previous year, attributing this improvement to preventive measures like seasonal malaria chemoprevention. He called on families to cooperate with community distributors and ensure compliance with the treatment protocol to further decrease malaria incidence among children.
The fourth phase of CPS+ will occur across the entire national territory.
