Kona:Economic stakeholders including traders, artisans, and livestock farmers in Kona have been urged to consistently fulfill their local tax obligations to support municipal development. The Secretary General of the municipality, Amadé Ouédraogo, emphasized this during an awareness event held on October 15, 2026.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative was organized by the municipality to educate economic actors on various municipal taxes, their collection processes, and the significance of adhering to tax regulations. The gathering aimed to underline the role of local tax contributions in financing development projects that benefit the community.
The discussions covered licenses, public land occupation taxes, market rights, and livestock taxes. Participants had the opportunity to discuss payment methods and express concerns about collection frequency and the allocation of tax revenue.
Amadé Ouédraogo highlighted that taxes should be considered a vital contribution to local development rather than a burden. He called on taxpayers to comply with their fiscal responsibilities to ensure adequate resources for municipal projects.
Moreover, Ouédraogo stressed the importance of balancing taxpayer duties with their rights, noting that tax revenue funds essential services such as sanitation, road maintenance, market management, and the construction of educational and health facilities. In return, taxpayers are entitled to expect transparency in resource management, a supportive environment for their activities, and ongoing dialogue with the municipal administration.
The event concluded with representatives of traders, craftsmen, and farmers expressing their support for the initiative and committing to spreading awareness among their peers. Kona's municipality aims to enhance understanding of tax obligations, boost local revenue mobilization, and foster governance based on dialogue and citizen involvement.
