Kaya:The integrated multi-sectoral assistance project focusing on sexual and reproductive health, nutrition, and protection has achieved a physical implementation rate of 97.95% and a budget execution rate of 81.74% as of the end of August 2026. The project’s successful performance was lauded by the governor of the Koulsé region, Bernadette Adenyo/Sermé, during a review and capitalization workshop held on Tuesday.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Governor Adenyo/Sermé commended the achievements in Koulsé, particularly highlighting the investments in infrastructure and health equipment, as well as the capacity building of stakeholders. She also expressed her hope for ongoing support from CARE and its partners.
Since January 2025, the project has been implemented by CARE Burkina Faso and the Technical Alliance for Development Assistance (ATAD), with funding from Global Affairs Canada amounting to US$3.33 million (1.906 billion FCFA). The project operates in the Koulsé, Liptako, and Soum regions, providing assistance to internally displaced persons, returnees, and host communities.
In the Koulsé region specifically, the project has covered the municipalities of Boulsa, Boala, and Sabcé. It has facilitated the rehabilitation of nine health facilities and the equipping of 12 structures, reaching 48,364 people with supported health services. Additionally, nutritional and protection efforts have benefited several thousand individuals across the three intervention regions.
Dr. Jean-Marie Zongo, the coordinator of CARE Burkina Faso, described the review and capitalization workshop as an accountability measure towards the communities and an opportunity to draw lessons from the intervention. In regions facing significant security challenges, the project has been instrumental in restoring and strengthening healthcare provision through rehabilitation, medical equipment, and transportation. Dr. Zongo emphasized that these efforts have reduced the distance mothers and sisters need to travel to access health centers.
