Bobo-Dioulasso:The sixth edition of the City Trophies celebrated the achievements of local authorities in areas such as citizenship, solidarity, youth employability, and market infrastructure. The initiative, as outlined by the event's general commissioner Oumar Sidib, aims to showcase the efforts of the presidents of the special delegations (PDS) for the benefit of the population.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this project, launched in 2012, is in its sixth edition and is the second to focus on the presidents of special delegations. The approach honors local officials who, even with limited resources, manage to execute actions that address the needs of their constituents.
The award ceremony distributed twenty classic trophies across various categories, alongside three Super Trophies of the City for specific projects that hold particular importance for the municipalities. Additionally, two municipal leadership trophies were introduced to recognize PDS whose actions have had significant impacts either municipally or nationally.
Oumar Sidib expressed satisfaction with the ceremony, highlighting the presence and contentment of nearly all award winners. He urged partners to increase support for local authorities, emphasizing their crucial role in national development. He encouraged the PDS to better publicize their achievements, stating, "It's good to work, but it's even better to publicize what you're achieving."
Among the recognized communities was the municipality of Komsilga, where Antarest Batiana, president of the special delegation, dedicated the awards to his colleagues and town hall staff, emphasizing the collective effort behind their success. Similarly, Salamata Compaor, president of the special delegation of district 6 of Bobo-Dioulasso, appreciated the initiative for offering an external perspective on community achievements and motivating improvements in citizen services.
The City Trophies aim to encourage good local practices and inspire local government officials to enhance their initiatives for the development and well-being of the population.
