Sapouy:The Zero Female Cancer Association, in collaboration with the Sapouy health district, held a breast and cervical cancer awareness and screening campaign on October 16 and 17, 2026. This initiative is part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and aimed to reach nearly 500 women.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the campaign's objective was to enhance the prevention of women's cancers by raising awareness and providing screening for precancerous cervical lesions. Dr. Cheick Sanogo, the chief medical officer of the Sapouy health district, acknowledged the partners contributing to the campaign and emphasized the importance of sustaining these initiatives beyond October.
Dr. Sanogo also sought support for acquiring a thermocoagulator, a device that enables local treatment of certain precancerous cervical lesions. This equipment could minimize the need for patients to travel to Koudougou or Ouagadougou, which are often expensive trips that discourage treatment continuation.
Assita Zerbo, president of the Zero Cancer for Women Association, thanked partners and the Sapouy health district for their support. The campaign was well-received by beneficiaries, who see it as vital in preventing potential cancer cases.
The stakeholders involved in this campaign aim to bolster prevention efforts and improve access to cancer screening, addressing a significant public health challenge.
