Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention Campaign Concludes in Bomborokuy

Bomborokuy:The Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) campaign has ended at the Bomborokuy Medical Center, targeting 3,377 children aged between 3 to 59 months. This initiative aimed to shield children from malaria during the rainy season by providing free preventative medication.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the campaign divided the children into two groups, with 601 children aged 3 to 11 months and 2,776 children aged 12 to 59 months receiving the intervention. Besides malaria prevention, the campaign also included public health activities such as screening for acute malnutrition in children aged 6 to 59 months and identifying zero-dose or under-vaccinated children aged 0 to 23 months to update their vaccination records.

Karim Traore, the supervisor and major of the Bomborokuy Medical Center, emphasized the significance of this campaign in combating malaria in local villages, families, and communities. He highlighted the need to ensure that all targeted children receive this preventative care.

The campaign also focused on early detection of acute malnutrition to aid in the care of affected children, and it promoted the search and destruction of mosquito breeding sites. Health actors aim to reinforce malaria prevention, enhance nutritional care, and improve vaccination coverage through this integrated effort in the Bomborokuy health area.
