Nouna:The Secretary General of the Kossin province, Firmin Bassole, chaired a meeting of the health council of the Nouna health district. The meeting, held on Monday, October 19, 2026, focused on various critical issues such as the epidemiological situation, audit presentations, interventions by TDH in the province, and challenges related to human resources at the peripheral level.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the primary aim of the Nouna health district council is to review ongoing activities and facilitate exchanges on pressing health-related topics. Firmin Bassole emphasized the importance of coordination among health services, administrative authorities, military personnel, and communities, especially in the face of socio-economic constraints and difficulties accessing certain areas. He remarked that no single entity can provide lasting solutions to all health problems.
The council also discussed the epidemiological situation in the district, highlighting the effective management of malaria, which has significantly reduced lethality in the latter half of the year. However, Nouna remains the epicenter of an epidemiological emergency. Dr. Dieudonne Kietega, the Chief Physician of the Medical Centre, pointed out the progression of dengue from Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso to other provinces, stressing the need for collective prevention efforts.
The meeting also covered TDH-L's contributions, which include support in medical equipment and human resource strengthening, although these were deemed insufficient. Olivier Koumsongo announced plans to reopen the CSPS in Konankoïra and ensure the continuity of care at the Djibasso Medical Centre. Discussions concluded with recommendations for establishing community units for managing obstetric and neonatal emergencies and equipping a CSPS with a tricycle to facilitate medical evacuations.
