Sixty Teachers in Titao Trained in Bi-Plurilingual Approach

Titao:Sixty tenured teachers of first-year bi-multilingual classes and school directors from the Basic Education Districts of Titao I and II participated in a training program from October 2 to 21, 2026. The program focused on the transcription of Moor and the didactics of teaching disciplines.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this training is part of efforts to generalize bi-multilingual education, aimed at facilitating school learning by utilizing national languages alongside a second language, primarily French.

During the training's initial week, participants were introduced to the spelling rules for transcribing Moor. The following week concentrated on teaching various disciplines, particularly the use of teaching materials, guided reading and writing, as well as class news.

The training was conducted by Inspector Lamine Ganam, a focal point for bilingual and multilingual education at the CEB of Titao II, with assistance from Kassoum Nacanabo, Head of the CEB of Titao I. Ganam noted the regularity and participation of teachers, highlighting their interest in contextualizing the Burkinabe education system. He encouraged them to apply their new knowledge for the students' benefit.

Kassoum Nacanabo acknowledged initial challenges in implementing the reform but urged teachers to view these as challenges to be overcome. Alassane Kagon, director of Salla public primary school, appreciated the approach's emphasis on local languages but expressed concern about the training's brevity, calling for additional sessions.

Training officials emphasized the necessity for teachers to continue their learning to effectively implement bilingual and multilingual teaching. These efforts are part of broader educational reforms in Burkina Faso, aiming to align schools with local realities.
