516 Poultry Farmers in Burkina Faso Receive Production Kits in “Zero Empty Chicken Coop” Initiative

Mogdin:The Minister Delegate for Animal and Fisheries Resources, Amadou Dicko, has launched the distribution of 516 poultry kits as part of the "Zero Empty Chicken Coop" operation in Mogdin and Gampèla. This initiative, started on August 21, 2026, aims to support the 2026-2028 agropastoral, hydraulic, and fisheries offensive.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the modern poultry farming kits distributed include 1,000 chicks, more than two tons of feed, and health support with vaccines and other inputs. Meanwhile, the traditional farming kits comprise 100 adult poultry, including 90 hens and 10 roosters, three tons of feed, and health support.

The Director General of Animal Production, Emilien Bakoné, mentioned that the operation received over 24,000 applications, and after pre-selection and farm inspections, 516 beneficiaries were finalized from the initially planned 500. The beneficiaries have pledged to continue the operation using their funds after the support period ends. Bakoné indicated that the program might be renewed if the objectives are achieved.

One of the beneficiaries, the Baobab Noma training center in Samba, welcomed the support. Sini Abdoul Razak, the production manager, noted that the equipment and inputs would enhance the center's production of improved local chickens and provide practical training opportunities for learners. The center, operational since July 2025, has trained over 100 individuals and offers various training programs, emphasizing practical skills.

Razak also highlighted the closure of several urban poultry farms due to a lack of expertise and encouraged individuals interested in poultry or fish farming to reach out to the center for skill enhancement.
