National Armed Forces Commemorate 66th Anniversary with Soldier Decorations in Bobo-Dioulasso

Bobo-Dioulasso:The National Armed Forces (FAN) marked their 66th anniversary with a ceremony at the Ouezzin Coulibaly camp, where 139 soldiers were decorated for their dedication and service to the defense of the homeland. The event, held on Sunday, November 1, 2026, celebrated the theme "National Armed Forces and Military Reserves for a Sovereign Defense of the Homeland."

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony honored the merit and commitment of the military personnel by awarding various distinctions such as the Military Medal, the Combatant's Cross, the Firefighters' Medal of Honor, and the Military Medal of Honor. Lieutenant Colonel Lassané Porgo, commander of the 2nd Military Region, conveyed the message from Major General Célestin Simporé, Minister of State, Minister of War and Patriotic Defense.

Major General Simporé highlighted the historical context of the commemoration, occurring during ongoing efforts against terrorism. He remarked on the 66 years of discipline, courage, and loyalty embodied by the armed forces and acknowledged the recent successes in counter-terrorism efforts.

Furthermore, Major General Simporé called for the mobilization of all citizens in defense of the homeland, citing a global geopolitical climate marked by uncertainty. He introduced the establishment of the Military Reserve as a significant advancement in national defense, emphasizing that it provides a strategic opportunity by preparing citizens for involvement in national security.

The Minister clarified that the Military Reserve is not intended to militarize all citizens but to offer a structured and disciplined framework for eligible individuals to contribute to national defense. This initiative, he explained, creates a bridge between the armed forces and civilian society, reinforcing the connection between military duty and civic responsibility.

The ceremony concluded with recognition of the new recruits' contributions and a reaffirmation of the commitment of the combat forces to the nation's defense.
