Koudougou:An 18-year-old student was rescued from a forced marriage by the vigilance of the National Police during a routine check on the Koudougou-Sabou road.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the incident occurred at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2026. Law enforcement officers became suspicious when they noticed the worried and fatigued demeanor of a young female passenger on a motorcycle. Upon questioning, the girl revealed she was being taken to Boromo against her will.
Further investigations identified the young woman as Tall Mamounata, a student in 5th grade at the CEG of Rakalo in Imasgo. It was discovered that Mamounata was being forcibly married to the younger brother of Tall Saïdou, the motorcyclist who was transporting her. Mamounata had expressed her desire to continue her education, which was being thwarted by the marriage arrangement.
Tall Saïdou admitted to the actions, citing "custom" and stating that a religious marriage had already been conducted in September. He was subsequently charged and brought before the Koudougou prosecutor's office for practicing forced marriage.
Mamounata has been placed under the protection of the Boulkiemdé Provincial Family Service, with plans for her to return to Imasgo to resume her studies. Meanwhile, the Nando Criminal Investigation Brigade (BRPE Nando) summoned the families involved, but no relatives have appeared yet. The investigation continues to fully clarify the situation.
