Democrats Call for End to US-Iran Conflict as New Political Landscape Emerges

Baghdad:The leader of the Democrats in the US Senate, Chuck Schumer, has called for an end to the ongoing conflict with Iran. This declaration was made following the Democrats' success in the recent midterm elections, which saw them gain control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Schumer emphasized the urgency of ending the war, which began in February 2026, during a press conference held on November 4, 2026. He indicated the possibility of utilizing "budgetary power" to compel the Trump administration to cease the conflict, citing a lack of clarity from President Donald Trump regarding the reasons for the war.

The Democratic victory in the midterm elections, held on November 3, 2026, has shifted the balance of power in Congress, although the newly elected officials will not assume their roles until January 2027. This change has led to a Republican loss of control over both houses.

Vice President JD Vance also addressed the war's impact, attributing it to the Republicans' electoral defeat. He voiced this sentiment on the social network X, highlighting the need for a candid discussion on future strategies.

In response to inquiries about Vance's comments, President Trump acknowledged a temporary rise in gasoline prices due to the conflict but defended his decision to engage in the war, citing long-term concerns over Iran's nuclear capabilities.
