Mogho Naaba trial: The Court rejects provisional release and returns the case

The High Court (TGI) of Ouaga I rejects provisional release for the defendants at the request of defense lawyers and returns the case to June 21, 2023 for the proper administration of justice , reports the AIB on Wednesday.

The defendants, including a journalist, a presenter and leaders of civil society organizations (CSOs), accused of disclosing false information, inciting an armed or unarmed crowd and endangering life of others, were facing the High Court of Ouaga I to answer for the facts of which they are accused.

Shortly after, the court rejected the request for provisional release for the defendants, issued by the defense lawyers.

For his part, the prosecutor of Faso rejected this request because according to him, the alleged facts are serious and that the person who recorded the audio is still on the run.

In his opinion, provisional release may allow some of them to erase important evidence and there may also be risks of subordination.

He added that the detention is not excessive under the legal provisions.

The court has finally returned the file on the Moogho Naaba Palace fire case for June 21, 2023.

The persons prosecuted are among others Alain Traoré (radio host), Lookman Sawadogo (journalist) for complicity in non-denunciation.

Activists Pascal Zaïda, Oumar Sawadogo, Boukaré Conombo, Abdoul Karim Baguian, Boukaré Tapsoba, Désiré Guinko and Marcel Tankoano are found in the other charges.

These citizens would have made audio to provoke clashes between pros and cons to the destruction of the palace of Mogho Naaba, a very respected traditional King.
