Gourcy: The Zondoma Provincial Transhumance Committee holds its first session of 2023

The Zondoma Provincial Transhumance Committee (COPT) held its first session of 2023 this Wednesday, July 12, 2023 in Gourcy, under the chairmanship of High Commissioner Aboubacar Sidiki Nabé.

It is in this perspective that the statutory members of the Zondoma provincial committee met this Wednesday, July 12, 2023 in the CITES conference room in Gourcy.

The first session of the year of the Provincial Transhumance Committee (COPT) of Zondoma was held as part of the implementation of the activities of phase 2 of the Regional Support Project for Pastoralism in the Sahel (PRAPS 2-BF ).

After the broadcast of two documentary films on pastoralism and transhumance in the countries of the Sahel, the participants followed several presentations, in particular on the activities carried out by the PRAPS 2-BF project, the organization, the attributions and the functioning of the different types transhumance committees (CONAT, CORET and COPT).

Subsequently, papers on the inventory of transhumance in the North Region and the province of Zondoma were presented, emphasizing the difficulties encountered and proposed solutions.

Finally, the participants made recommendations, including the involvement of administrative, customary and religious authorities in the negotiation of spaces for the construction of infrastructures, the management of the organization of COPT sessions by the Status and development of a Zondoma committee action plan.

This session was organized thanks to the support of the General Directorate of Land, Training and Organization of the Rural World (DGFOMR).

As a reminder, the transhumance committees have the mission, on the one hand, to contribute to a good organization of national and cross-border transhumance and, on the other hand, to work to reduce conflicts between users of natural resources.
