Ouagadougou: The Beninese conceptual artist residing in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, Thierry Oussou, returned on Thursday his works produced in three weeks at the Opéra village, celebrating union and solidarity.The Beninese conceptual artist, Thierry Oussou, spent three weeks with students from the Opéra village in the urban commune of Ziniaré, a locality located in the northeast of Burkina, about thirty kilometers from Ouagadougou.During his stay, Mr. Oussou, through his drawings, weavings, pottery, called on the sons and daughters of the country to solidarity and sacred union to face the major challenges of the moment.Listening to him, he says he draws inspiration from the texts of Burkinabè Sidiki Yougbaré to carry out his activities at the Opéra village.The Beninese conceptual artist, during the restitution of his work, was able to show the children and the public a hippopotamus produced in bronze, a jar with holes that could be stopped by hands, a symbol of union, Faso Danfani farcloths with mul ticolored patterns and t-shirts containing messages favorable to the Transition underway in Burkina Faso.To this end, a shed made with millet stalks, synonymous with union and solidarity, was also presented by Thierry Oussou.According to the artist, the main message through his works of art is the search for social cohesion, understanding, fraternity for a just and equitable world.To listen to him, his presence at the Opéra village of Ziniaré follows a call for applications in which he was selected for the creation of his masterpieces in the said village.He said that poets wrote plays, and artists used their texts to create works of art.'I focused on what I encounter in my environment because my work speaks about what surrounds me,' maintained the conceptual artist.The Beninese says he has seen men drinking dolo in hangars, and even been caught by the movements of the gourds during his visit to the cabarets.Mr. Oussou also noted that as an African artist, he must contribute to creating works tha t speak of his time.
