The Trade Union Action Unit (UAS), Hauts-Bassins section held a meeting at the Bobo-Dioulasso Labor Exchange, on May 1, 2024, to celebrate Labor Day.Workers went to the Bobo-Dioulasso Labor Exchange on May 1, 2024, to celebrate Labor Day.Equipped with banners, they held a meeting there during which the Union Action Unit (UAS) delivered its message to the world of workers. This message read by the secretary general of the National Union of Administration and Management Personnel of Education and Research, (SYNAPAGER), Kalifa Ouattara, the unions depicted the international, African and national situation, and the conditions of life of workers. After taking an overview of the national situation, the unions in the Hauts-Bassins region welcomed the development of courts at the renovated Bobo-Dioulasso courthouse. In 2018 the unions demanded the termination of the lease contracts of certain courts in Bobo-Dioulasso, and the rehabilitation of the courthouse in the town of Sya.The UAS still demands the reloc ation of certain cement plants because, according to it, they are located in the protected areas of the Kou River, endangering, it says, the lives of the populations of the city and the country through the risks of pollution of the groundwater. In addition, the unions denounced the high cost of living resulting from the surge in prices of cereal products linked to the war in Ukraine and the inability for many farmers to produce due to insecurity, withholdings on wages and workers' compensation, the introduction of taxes on drinks, tobacco and telephone consumption. She also criticized the water cuts and load shedding which cause numerous damages to economic players, particularly those operating in the fields of metal construction, the sale of dairy products, fishmongers and charcuterie products. The Hauts-Bassins coordination of the UAS then invited its activists to be more determined in their fights against impunity, corruption, fraud and for freedoms.Source: Burkina Information Agency
