72554 children aged 0 to 59 months will be vaccinated against poliomyelitis from May 10 to 13, 2024, in the Léo health district, Center-West region. The support of all the active forces of the province of Sissili is requested for the success of the said national vaccination campaign.The health district of Léo, in the province of Sissili, Central-West region, initiated an advocacy workshop on Wednesday May 8, 2024 in Léo with the authorities and opinion leaders, in favor of the national vaccination campaign against poliomyelitis.According to the Chief Medical Officer of the health district (MCD) of Léo, Dr Aboubacary Abdou, the first round of the national vaccination campaign against polio will concern 72,554 children aged 0 to 59 months and will be coupled with the screening of malnutrition in children aged 6 at 59 months.'It is in this dynamic that the health district is holding an advocacy workshop to seek the commitment and support of the authorities as well as opinion leaders in the province to achi eve the national rate of 97%,' explained Dr Abdou .Participants were provided with information relating to the disease polio. They also received guidance on the progress of the current vaccination campaign.For the MCD of the Léo health district, poliomyelitis is a debilitating disease, very dangerous and contagious and that vaccination remains the only means of prevention.He also specified that all children regardless of their vaccination status are affected by this campaign.The high commissioner of the Sissili province, Tewendé Isaac Sia, requested the involvement of all stakeholders, especially parents, for the success of the polio vaccination campaign.Mr. Sia finally thanked the Léo health district for the efforts made for the well-being of the populations of the province.Source: Burkina Information Agency
